Healthy eating

Since Jason has been eating healthier (and has lost about 80 lbs!!...I'm so proud of him!), I have been trying to eat healthier too.  I am a sugar addict, but I have been trying to add a lot of healthy foods to my diet too.  Dont get me wrong, I still eat my fair share of junk (too much), but I guess I feel a little better knowing I am trying to eat better as a whole.  I'm limiting my white bread/flour consumption, and eating mostly whole what bread and pasta when I can, and adding more fruits and veggies in our diet though juicing.  Also, I am trying to make sure the kids are eating well too with fresh juice and healthy baby food. I always thought making your own baby food was a lot of work.  I thought everything had to be steamed first, and then put in small cups and frozen until needed.  I did it once with Wesley, but I didn't enjoy it, and never really did it again.   Chase eats soo much baby food, and I can go through 2-3 store bought ones in one sitting.   I decided to try to make my own, and it is actually really easy and super healthy.  I have a little mini food processor.  All I do is throw in fruits/veggies that do not need to be steamed and/or I throw in what ever we are having for dinner.  Spaghetti and sauce works really well.  Some healthy and easy foods that I puree the most are avocados, bananas, oranges, grapes, tomatoes, and spinach.  I usually always mix in some apple sauce, water, or any left over baby food I have in the fridge to get it to the right consistency.  I also always mix in some flax seed...lots of omega's and fiber, so it is really healthy.  Chase loves it, and I can make a big batch that is larger than any store bought container.  It takes only a minute!  Super easy... even for me!

I have a tiny little garden that has tomatoes and spinach, so it is easy to just go out and pick some veggies to throw in the food processor.
Sometimes I add store bought baby food if I have any left overs in the fridge.
The yummy tomatoes from my garden.  Every few weeks I get a good handful of tomatoes on my plant!
The only other thing that I can grow well is Spinach.  Yummy!

Our little square foot garden on our patio

A few months later it was this....lots of tomatoes, and lots of weeds (surrounding it, not really in my garden).  I need to stop neglecting the poor thing, and start planting more veggies for spring/ summer.

Lastly, we have been doing more juicing lately. We bought this juicer a few years ago, and get it out once in a while.  It is a little bit of a pain to clean, but it really is healthy.  No added sugars, preservatives, or chemicals.  Just 100% pure goodness.  Also, Wesley LOVES juicing.  We went to the store and bought tons of fruits and veggies.  Even ones I normally wouldn't touch by themselves.   Wesley helped me put the veggies and fruit in the juicer and push down the plunger.  I was super surprised when he drank the whole glass.  It had a radish, collard greens, orange, tomato, carrots, apple, and cucumber.  Honestly...it sounds gross (I do not like half of those veggies!) , but it really is pretty good as long as you put something sweet in like an apple or pineapple (my favorite!)  or pear.  Wesley loved making it, and loved drinking it.  If you have a picky eater at home, I highly recommend juicing!  It is packed with nutrients, and even me...who doesn't like most veggies, could drink a glass!

Even Chase tried some, but didn't care for it too much.  I think we will stick with milk for him for a little while longer.
