My Birthday Boy!

Three years ago a tiny little bald, wrinkly baby decided to make his way into the world six weeks early.  He was a fighter (and still is).   He is now a handsome, red-headed, silly little guy who has never stopped giving life his all!  We are sure glad he fought so hard to stay alive - I couldn't  imagine life without him! He had to go to a developmental specialist just to make sure he is developing as he should since he was so sick at birth. They spent a long time testing his mental, intellectual, and physical abilities.  It was kind of fun watching him being tested.  He actually tested advanced in almost all the intellectual areas, and where he should be in the physical areas. Yay! That is always good news! I wanted to make a list of Wesley traits for his third birthday, but unlike monthly milestones as a baby, there are just too many funny/silly/unique things to talk about by the time they are three.  It is hard to not write a novel!  Here are just a few normal things I want to remember, and a few funny stories too:

-As I have mentioned before, he talks ALL day.  I do love it, but sometimes it can get a little, um, tiring.  He tells me stories, he asks me questions, and he just talks.  A few examples, "Mommy... is red stop, or is green...which one?"  "Mommy...what is that dogs name?"  "Mommy...what is that noise?!"  "Mommy...look what I can do, Look!  Look!"  "Mommy...look at my pretty itty bitty flower I got!  Isn't it cute?!  What does it smell like?"  "What do those letters spell?" And so on.  Sooo.... Funny story....  Last week in church I was telling him to tell me if he needs to go pee pee.  LOUDLY, he exclaims over and over, "Pee pee and Poo poo come out the Penis!!!!" Luckily, we were walking in the hall and I dont think too many people heard....

- He will often come up to me and give me a big hug and say, "Mommy, I love you soooooo much!"  One time he did that, and I hugged him back and told him he was a good boy.  He looked at me and told me I was a good boy too.

-He loves the alphabet.  He sings the song numerous times each day (and has been for over a year). Every time he sees a word he asks what it spells.  He likes to pretend to make words with his letters.  He will put random letters together and ask what it spells.  He knows how to read a few words just from asking me all the time, like STOP from the stop sign, or EXIT from all the exit signs at church and so on.  He also loves spelling his name, and can write it out too.

-He loves his "froggie" and has to sleep with him every night.  For a while, he had to sleep with mousey, and his stuffed moon, and a few others I can't remember, but his one true lovey has always been mr. froggie.

-He likes to point out when he sees other people/things with red hair.  He pointed to Ronald McDonald on the happy meal and said, "Look!  He has red hair like me!!"

-He loves playing outside (like most boys), and can happily entertain himself for hours in the backyard.

-He is soo stubborn, and very strong-willed.  It can be challenging at times, but I know it can be a good trait to have when older (hopefully!)

-He likes to talk in behalf of other people.  He will often tell me what Chase wants or doesn't want.  He also has a little friend who doesn't talk quite as much as Wesley and he likes to talk for him when we are together...."Kyle wants to walk with me!  Kyle doesn't want to go in the stroller!"  and so on.

-Wesley still loves his milk.  He would be happy drinking (and eating) nothing but milk.  At night I give him a toddler formula just to make sure he is getting enough nutrients,  and we call it his "special" milk.  He has to have it every night before bed, and he will sometimes even cuddle up with me on the couch in my arms like a baby.  Sweet little guy.

-He is fascinated by the world, and seriously can't learn things fast enough.  He is curious about everything, and wants to know all about life.  I hope he will be my little scientist!  :-)

Wesley keeps me entertained ALL day.  He is the comic relief when I need a good laugh, and the sweet smile I count on to brighten my day.  He is a character, and can really wear me out.  However, I can't believe I got so lucky to be able to be his mom!  I look forward to watching him grow and I know he will help change the world and make it a better place.

He has been asking almost every day, "Is it my Birthday yet?!"  When asked what he wanted for his Birthday, all he wanted was cake (Elmo to be exact) and Balloons.  He would have been 100% happy with just those two things.  I spent a long time researching the best way to make Elmo cupcakes since that was what he was asking for everyday, and I wanted them to be special for him.  We also blew up a whole bunch of balloons and put them in the living room the night before.  He loved them, and didn't even want to open gifts.  He had a good birthday.  That morning Jason got him up, and he came into my room and said, "Mommy...do you know today is my Birthday! Yay!"  We opened gift before Jason went to work, and that night we had a simple little family party.  He was so obsessed with the helium balloons he got, he didn't want to open more gifts.  We had to coax him.  I think he was a little overwhelmed with all the people, and didn't quite get it.

There is nothing but pure delight in his face when he found all his balloons that morning!

Homemade frosting yumminess!

So, I was reading online that in order to get frosting the true Elmo red color, it takes an entire bottle of red food coloring.  That just sounded gross to me, so I decided to spray the tops red.  I think it turned out pretty well.

I made one fluffy Elmo just for Wesley

The cute self portrait he drew..I think it looks really good!
