Sleep, bumps, and Big Bear

So, we have been busy with mini- vacations, trips, milestones, and illnesses.  Here are some of the highlights from the last month:

- Chase is sleeping through the night!  Yes, you read that correctly!  It all started when he had a cold around 11.5 months old, and had a really stuffy nose.  I put a pillow under his head to help him breath better.  He ended up snuggling with it all night, and it helped him to stay asleep, and get back to sleep when he woke up.  He is pretty cute too; snuggled all close to the pillow with his little bum in the air. I have such a cute affectionate little guy :-)  I have been trying on and off to get him to sleep in Wesley's room where we have had his crib set up for over a year now. The hardest part is that Chase still wakes up fairly early (between 5-6), so I have to rush in there as soon as Chase starts making noise before he wakes Wesley up.  However, for the last two weeks he has been back in my room for one reason or another.  He has had a fever and has been miserable the last few days, so it is easier having him close to me so I can check on him throughout the night.  Even though he is sleeping through the night, I feel like I am still not getting as much sleep as I should.  I am getting to bed so late recently.  It is a bad habit I need to break.  I never, ever used to go to bed late.  Even in college when I was in the dorms I would kick people out of my room so I could go to bed before nine!!!!  I was so strict and disciplined...what happened?  Kids!  lol

-We have been battling Moluscum (sp?)  for a few months.  It is a harmless, painless (except it can be itchy), virus that is expressed by small little flesh colored bumps that are similar to warts.  I guess 1 in 5 kids get them sometime in their childhood, but not a lot of people know about them. We spotted one on his tummy about 6 months ago that we assumed was a mole.  At a doctor's appointment, they informed us it was Molluscum, and that we didn't need to do anything because they go away on their own.  Well, it spread, and he soon had 20 or more small bumps on his tummy and right thigh.  I can not stand not feeling in control, and even though it wasn't harming anything I just had to get rid of it.  We had them frozen off at the dermatologist, but it was a painful and awful experience for Wesley.  By the time those spots healed, a bunch more bumps popped up.  I have been very interested in homeopathic, and all natural remedies for common ailments.  I have found many treatments that are much safer, and often more effective than traditional drugs.  I could get a powerful chemical from the doctors that basically irritates and inflames Wesley's skin to get rid of the bumps (very painful), or try some less traditional methods.  This virus doesn't like acidic environments, so I soak cotton balls in apple cider vinegar and put them on the bumps, and cover them with a bandaid.    It is actually working very well.  I also bought some natural medicine through Amazon that also seems to be helping.  It is still a battle, and I am trying to keep it from spreading to Chase since it is contagious, but we are slowing getting rid of them.  Having kids sure opens my eyes to all the fun illnesses in the world!

-We went to Big Bear Lake a few weeks ago with Jason while he was on a Business trip.  He gets to travel for his job, and once in a while if I am able (and up to it), we will tag along.  It was fun, but a lot of work.  Being in a small hotel with very few toys, no kitchen, and not a lot of stuff to do with two small kids was challenging.  Since Jason was at work during the day, I had to find things to do to entertain the kids all day.  We went to the little local zoo, went to parks, waked around the lake, had a picnic, walked around the local stores, ate at some cute Ma & Pa type restaurants, and enjoyed nature (the best part).   I tried to come back to the hotel after going on our little adventures so the kids could take a nap.  Chase is a creature of habit, and it is hard to get him to sleep and do things in an unfamiliar environment.  Not to mention trying to keep Wesley quiet enough to let Chase sleep.  It actually worked out really well, and both the boys slept amazingly well (surprisingly!)  The kids were loud and all the people around us, who were luckily mostly Jason's coworkers,  got to know us really well!  Even the hotel employees knew us really well by the end of the week.  I think Wesley was known as the little crazy red-headed Denis the Menis, lol.  He even set off the emergency alarm in the elevator, and scared all the employees.  I was pretty embarrassed as we traveled back down to the first floor, only to find the employees waiting for us with worried expressions on their faces.  It was overall a fun trip, and I think Wesley enjoyed himself.  However, he did keep asking if we were going to stay in his new home (the hotel), and would sometimes say, "I dont like my new home, I want to go to Grandmas..."

Enjoying the cute hotel room

Going on our three mile hike around the lake. It was a nice paved trail that we were able to push the stroller on.
Enjoying nature...and always making a funny face....

We went on a nice picnic next to the lake for lunch one of the days.  Unfortunately, it was really cold and windy so we had to pack up and find a warmer spot.
More of the beautiful trail around the lake.  Wesley walked almost the whole thing.

Wesley next to a cute little owl at the local zoo.  It was a tiny zoo, but it was fun to see all the local wildlife...and all the cute owls!

The gorgeous board walk over the lake

Wesley loved all the big bridges

One of the local parks overlooking the lake.  There wasn't any shade though, and it got a little toasty.
