Beach Bums

For Memorial Day we went to the beach with Jason's family.  Ya...we will probably never go to the beach on a holiday again (maybe Christmas, lol).  We left later in the day, and traffic was horrible on the streets getting to the beach.  The freeway was fine, but from PCH it was a parking lot.  Then, by the time we finally made it to the beach, the parking lot was closed because it was full.  It was really a blessing because it cost $25 to park in the parking lot!!!  Yikes!!  We tried to find parking on the street, but it was soooo packed.  After driving around for a good 20 minutes trying to find parking, we finally found a spot really far away.  I put Chase in the sling, and held Wesley's hand/dragged him all the way down the street, down this steep hill, across the beach to get to where Jason's family was.  Poor Jason had the cooler, diaper bag, two food/clothing bags, and the chairs.  It was a long walk that felt even longer with all our junk.  We finally made it, and once we got settled, we had an enjoyable time.  Jason and the kids built a sand fort around Chase.  They sat him down next to the water, and covered his legs in the sand, and built a fort to protect him from the water.  He loved it, and sat there for a good 30 minutes while they covered his bottom half in sand.  He had fun helping them, and would even lick the sand once in a while to make sure it was still good.  He had an amazing view of the water, and was protected (for the most part) from the crashing waves.  The beach was very crowded, but it was still a lot of fun.   We will have to go back soon because they both seemed to enjoy the beach a lot.  They are definitely little Beach bums!

Huge smile!  I was surprised that he sat still for so long, and enjoyed just relaxing in his fort

I enjoy the beach, but I am not a big fan of cleaning up the sand that gets in every nook and cranny

I remember before being married going to the beach on Memorial or Labor day with the family and having the same experience. Needless to say we have never gone again. However, we go to a great beach with free parking every 4th of July. It is a long walk but we always unload at a close spot with some members and then the others drive, park and then walk over without the long haul. It gets so hard to go anywhere with kids... I never realized one small person needed so much. :)
