Blake is FIVE!

"Bug-a-Boo" "Blaker-bug" "Blakey-boy" "Blakers" "Bugs"

I don't think its possible to explain what a fun little spirt Blake is in one or two paragraphs. The enormity of his personality puts a smile of my face every day.  Blake is as bright and sunny as his red hair. From the time he was born I always sang him the song, "You are my Sunshine." It always seemed fitting, and it still does to this day.  He makes me happy when skies are grey (or when they are blue).  He really is a ray of sunshine to all around him.  Blake is funny, energetic, sweet, rambunctious, athletic, social, friendly, and determined.  Blake is extremely talkative and tries to tell me stories all day long.  Blake is really smart and already knows how to read Bob books and is only in preschool. He loves to gather his Bob books and sit next to me as he reads me his stories.  He is doing great at school and always makes his teachers laugh.  I recently taught him how to play checkers, and he actually picked up the game really fast.  He is constantly wanting to play (even though I am quickly tiring of the game lol). He does a great job of keeping up with his brothers which is why he tends to be a little more athletic and adventurous than many kids his age.  Speaking of adventurous - that kid is going to go places.  In his five years of life he has hiked so many advanced trails I have lost count.  He learned to ride a bike when he was only three, and by the time he was four he was zooming down complicated mountain bike trails at the local pump and jump course.  He always seems to gather attention wherever he goes.  He taught himself how to swim underwater at four (we are still working on above water).  He recently started ski lessons and LOVES skiing and is doing a great job. He advanced to the ski lift on his second lesson and can't get enough!  He loves camping and has been on lots of fun adventures in his short little life.  He wants to join all different kinds of sports teams and has enough energy to outrun all of us in our house.  He is literally always on the move.   Even though Blake is really active, he also is a huge sweetheart.  He loves to cuddle with me and is always telling me how much he loves me and cares about me.  He asks me constantly if I want to cuddle with him under the blanket and loves being silly with me.  He is always excited to spend time with me and I have loved all the one-on-one time I have been able to spend with him this year.  His age really is one of my favorite ages.  He is so sweet and silly and innocent,  but old enough to be able to have conversations with. He gets so excited about life which in turn makes me excited about everything.  He smile really is contagious, and I often see how others around him seem to cheer up when they hear Blake tell one of his stories in his excited voice.  He has a unique laugh that makes everyone smile. He is so cheerful and I hope he never looses that sparkle.  I wish I could bottle up his sweet spirit to keep forever.  He is a joy maker, and such a good example to me.  I sure love this little boy with every cell of my body.  I can't imagine life without him, and am so grateful that I have Blake in my world.  He makes this world a better place, and I'm a better person because of him!

We recently donated Blake's baby carseat to another family in our ward and he wanted to see if he could still fit.

Every year I make the boys a countdown calendar and they love it.  It is so simple and easy, but such a fun tradition.

Blake LOVES pokemon and Pikachu.  He asked for a pokemon themed birthday, so I took him to the store to pick out some decorations.  I love how something as simple as getting to pick out pikachu plates is pure excitement for an almost five year old.  He was so happy about everything and easy to please.

Chase wanted to surprise Blake with a homemade math book.  I was worried that Blake was going to have a negative reaction and in turn hurt Chase's feelings, but to my surprise Blake LOVED the homemade math book.  Sweet brothers!

Instead of having a big friend party, Blake wanted to go to a fun climbing gym called Funtopia.  It was the perfect place for active little boys.  I was worried they were going to be too nervous to climb, but all three of them quickly got the hang of it and had a very enjoyable time.

As for gifts - Blake decided he wanted me to take him to the store so he could pick out his own presents.  I let him put anything in the basket he wanted (up to a certain amount), and here are the things he picked: baseball bat and glove, slime, monster truck, RC car, mini arcade machine, and small skateboard.

Jason was gone for work on his actual birthday so we had all the previous celebrations the weekend before.  ON his actual birthday we just lit more candles on his remaining cake, and that night I took him, his brothers,  and his cousin Mara to the butterfly biosphere.
