Mirror Lake
We had a rather warm Fall, and one Saturday in November I really wanted to get outside and explore. I found recommendations online, and we decided to head to Mirror Lake. It was about an hour away, so I packed a picnic and had visions of eating along a gorgeous lake, and hiking in the green forest in our shorts and flipflops. However, I forgot that I live in UTAH where it actually gets cold and snows at high elevations even when the valley is still warm. When we got there, it was about 30 degrees, and the lake was already starting to freeze over. We only had light jackets and sandals on. My family humored me, and we still ate our picnic in the cold, and we went on a five minute hike until we discovered the path was frozen over and our sandals (and our cold bodies) were not going to make it any further. We quickly took some pictures, and ran back to the car, blasted the heater, and headed home. Ehh - we can't always have those perfect nature experiences, right? On our way home we found a gorgeous waterfall and viewpoint (which *cough* someone didn't get out to see and missed the best part of the trip:-) ). We will have to come back in the Summer when the temperatures are above freezing.
