Back to School

At the end of August (yes, I'm way behind), the boys started school.  Wesley started 2nd grade, and Chase started Kindergarten.  Neither boy was very excited to start.  Wesley gets really board at school, and Chase is very shy - especially when it comes to change and starting something new.  As I went to drop Chase off on his first day, he hid behind me while the other kids were playing on the playground.  He was apprehensive, but when the bell rang he lined up and went inside his classroom without a tear.  After I picked him up on his first day, he told me how much he loved his teacher and his new school.  What a blessing!  I was so happy.  He has an amazing teacher who is perfect for him.  She embraces his personality, and never makes him feel like he needs to do something he isn't comfortable with.  He has even presented in front of the class a few times during sharing time, which is a big deal for Chase.  Chase is so eager and excited to go to school most mornings. Every day that I pick him up he tells me he had a "great" day! I'm so happy he loves school so much because I know in a few years that might quickly change.

Wesley is doing well.  He is smart, and his teacher says he is doing well in class.  He is not a fan of school though, and puts up a huge fuss when its time to do homework.  He has very, very minimal homework this year too.  His teacher is older, and while she is nice, she doesn't exactly have the personality to keep Wesley engaged.  However, she also sees Wesley as an energetic boy and she has a lot of understanding and compassion that other teachers do not have with Wesley.

For the first time, I have been able to volunteer in both Wesley and Chase's classroom this year.  I was not able to help in Wesley classroom for the last two years, and I feel really sad about that.  I've tried really hard to make sure I have been able to help this year.  I help in Chase's classroom every other friday, and I have been able to help in Wesley's classroom during the Halloween and Christmas parties.

Even though time does pass too fast, I love watching my kids grow and learn and progress. I feel like the past seven years have been filled with diapers, tantrums, nursing, morning sickness, sippy cups, strollers, and all things baby. I feel like I'm finally emerging into a different stage of life, which is amazing and a little sad all at the same time. It is so rewarding to know my kids are learning how to spread their wings so they can better experience this wonderful life!
