So....one week ago I was walking to the commons at my school, and this dude hands me a pamphlet. Normally, any pamphlet handed to you at school is a lame attempt to get you to join a political party, or to join some sorority. Well, I look down and this one is actually about animal cruelty. Any one that knows me, knows that I am one of the biggest animal lovers ever. So, I read this pamphlet during lunch, and, wow....it sure did get the message across. I had no idea how horrible animals are treated in slaughter houses. With out going into detail... all I will say is that so many innocent animals are mistreated, abused, and painfully killed in these slaughter houses. The flesh is actually cut off many cows before they are completely dead. Do people think that animals do not have feelings? I do not spend a lot of time with cows, pigs or chickens, but I know that dogs and cats experience fear, pain, happiness, sadness, and so many other emotions. I just feel so terrible for the poor animals. They must be soooo scared :( This made me do some thinking, and I have decided to try out becoming a "partial vegetarian." I don't think there is anything wrong with eating meat. It is the animal cruelty occurring in slaughter houses that is wrong. Yes, there are some farms that do treat their animals with love, but many do not. I have decided to limit meat in my diet. Jason is sooo supportive of this, and we have already found AWESOME brands that make meat substitutes. I mean, did you know they make chicken, beef, sausage, hot dog, and riblet substitutes with out meat!!!!!!! Two brands I have found that I enjoy are the BOCA burger and Morning star farms. AT first, like many people, I thought that substitute meat would never taste like real meat, but It does!!!!!!!!! SO far I have tried the boca burger, and the corn dog. I am telling you....you would never have known it was not a real cheesburger, or a real corn dog. I think these substitute meats are soooo awesome. They have a lot less fat and cholesterol than regular meat, but taste very much like the real deal. So, even if you are not a vegetarian, these foods are great because they are healthier than meat.
In the end, I have come to realize not to take meat for granted. Every time I eat meat, I will make sure thank Heavenly Father for the animal that gave its life for me.

I think that's a great idea sweetie! I hate to think of animals in pain and suffering too. Where can you buy those brands?
I'm already there with you, sista! It's so disgusting and terirble. It's always been a sensitve place in our marriage because Ben is a Chef, but he's very respectful- but i always feel bad when he makes something that he's so proud of and i turn it away. When i was pregnant I always wanted meat, and it was horrible, but now that I'm normal again, I basically don't eat read meats or chicken, just fish- good luck!
D&C 89:12 "Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly;"
that's why those animals are here. heavenly father created them for us. our bodies are designed to consume them. when we refrain from eating meat we are missing vital nutrients and protein. i'm not saying that i condone the awful behavior of slaughter houses (but you must remember that not ALL slaughter houses are that bad.) just something to think about!
