Willis Creek and Devil's playground

Often, the most beautiful locations on Earth tend to also be the most crowded.  However, we found a few hidden gems near Grand Staircase that were remote enough to remain fairly quiet.  When I say quiet, I mean compared to how busy Bryce Canyon and other national parks can get.  The first was Devil's playground which is a really fun place for kids to climb and explore on giant rock formations.  The second was Willis canyon.  Willis Canyon is a beautiful slot canyon that is easy to get to, and easy to hike. There is a small stream that runs though it, which always adds a fun element to the hike.   Willis canyon is great for kids because they can run free, walk through the water, explore some slot canyons at their own pace, and not have to worry about tight crevices or scary climbs/drops.  Blake had a lot of fun going through the canyon, but coming back out he really struggled.  He was tired, wet, hot, and wanted to make sure everyone else knew how miserable he was.  Also on the way back Chase had to poop.  My kids love waiting until we are as far from facilities as possible to go to the bathroom.  We were in the middle of a slot canyon, which was miles from any bathroom.  He wanted to try to hold it, but it was obvious that he was not going to be able to do that.   We found a hidden area off the path so he could do his thing.  Chase is very private and panicked at the thought of going #2 in nature so I pretty much had to force him to at least try before he had a huge accident.  Luckily I had wipes and a first aid kit with gloves to help clean him up.  After doing his duty, he was able to actually enjoy the canyon.  Chase did so well this entire trip.  He hardly complained, hiked like a champ, and really seemed to enjoy all the adventures we went on.  Even though these vacations are often exhausting, I love all the memories we get to make as a family - poop accidents and all! (ok, maybe not the poop ha ha ha).
